Spoiler Alert! Track Listing Ahead!

I mailed my mixtapes yesterday, Wednesday May 9, and since some of you live pretty close to me and might receive the packages today, I thought I'd best post the track list in case you really want it to go along with your music.

A quick disclaimer: As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm not overly concerned with my street cred, in fact, I don't even know if I have any. That said, I don't know how 'hip' my mixtape may be to you. That said, let it be known that my mixtape was simply to show you music that I enjoy a great deal.

You'll find more old stuff than new. You'll probably know most of the artists if not the songs themselves. I just chose stuff that I think is of a high quality and that I listen to frequently.

And so, without further ado...(turn away if you don't wanna know yet!)

Captain Admiral's Track List for May 2007

1. Linus and Lucy - The Vince Guaraldi Trio
2. Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours - Stevie Wonder
3. Ain't Got No/I Got Life (Groovefinder remix) - Nina Simone
4. Black Swan - Thom Yorke
5. Give Your Love (live) - Mannequin Men
6. Safety Third - Melvins + Lustmord
7. Slack Motherfucker - Superchunk
8. Nervous Breakdown - Black Flag
9. Dance Monkey - Sage Francis
10. The Greatest - Cat Power
11. Deep Red Bells - Neko Case
12. Sun (Leftfield remix) - John Lydon
13. Club Foot - Kasabian
14. Joe Strummer - Cowboy Mouth

Hopefully you will enjoy these songs as much as I do.

the Captain

P.S. From the selfish plug departement: I'd really like some input on a blog I'm doing about movies that I'm watching this summer...if any of you could read my Captains Ramblings blog and give me some feedback it would be much appreciated.

Oh, Neko. How do I love her. Bring on this CD.

i just want to say that the "listen without prejudice" approach was rewarding for me and i recommend it to others. i will also send the mix and post the tracks later. hopefully you listen to the cd once or twice before cheating.

to post some shallow and contrived commentary about this mix:

okay, let me get it out that the Nina Simone track absolutely rocks my bollocks off. The beat is sexy, the lyrics unexpectedly unique at times (avoiding rhyme schemes that would have been easy to fall into in such a format). The opening flow of Guaraldi-Wonder-Simone is too kind.

I have listened through this mix twice, and I will post more thoughts later. I just wanted to give Cap'n a bow for a fine fine kickstart. If the Guild stays afloat, it will roundhouse untolds amounts of ass.

Yes! (pulls arms down in time with a pelvic-thrusty motion)

I just want to add a "ture that" to the above. I love the Nina song (for the line "I have my sex" alone).

Overall very cool mix all around I love the range.

my pardon "I got my sex."

Ahh, I'm glad you like the opening three songs. I put them together that way on purpose. I wanted the CD to open all happy-like, and i felt I had accomplished that with those songs. I know that after the Nina the tracks are all over the map.

I should point out one thing: the Cowboy Mouth song, "Joe Strummer", is definitely not in the class of all others on this CD. It's over produced and the singer tries far too hard to sound like Mike Ness. It's the message of the song that I appreciate and will furthermore in life adhere to. If I had used the 'Joe Strummer Test' I could have spared myself most bad relationships in my life, includng my disastrous marriage. Not that I'm bitter.

errr...I just thought of something. What if some members of this guild do not know who Joe Strummer is? I think I will have to mandate that if you do not know, please send my CD back to me and go join the Kevin Federline Plunder Guild. Thank you.

i know who joe strummer is. will you marry me?

Cap'n--the Neko Case song is grand. Very good music thar. Reminds me, very directly, of Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins. "does your soul cast about like an old paper bag?" (or something close to that lyrically)--I find myself repeating that line at odd times throughout the day-a sign that a song has really taken.

still spinning this mix.

this mix is sweet. i'll have mine off asap. i had to make some adjustments as some of the songs in my mix ended up in both the captain's and t-roy's mixes. sorry kids. it'll be worth the wait, i promise.

p.s. captain, did you somehow put some kind of copy protection on your disc? every time i try to import it with itunes it crashes out. lol!

Captain Admiral said...

that's weird. I burned it with windows media player (I have found that it burns faster than the itunes and since I was burning many discs...) so I don't know why it would be problematic. I'll send another if you like.

Grifter said...

Vincent: maybe drag the songs to the desktop first, then drag into iTunes.

Cappy,

As soon as I get it I'll post about it but alas New York is a far piece from you I'm sure.

I am a picky hearer, too soft and the emotive is choking, too hard and it's just a man thing, but the second time around, sir, it all synchoronized and I got it..

My earhole gets it repeatidly now. Like a cavalcade of tap-tap-whine scratch-SIMONE!

Merci bien.

There's this definite buildup for me. I'm listening to it again right now. At first, I was wondering how it all fit together. If they even were meant to, I suppose. But the more I listen, the album has this rise in tone and noise and crescendos in the middle and then it brings me out. I really enjoyed it. I should write some individual song descriptions when I have some more. Good album, Capn.
