monsters say - "YARR!!"

Complete with album art for you iTunes freaks out there, here is the track listing for the mix.

1. Portugal. The Man - The Devil
2. My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep
3. Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around The Block
4. Devendra Banhart - A Ribbon
5. The Cure - Why Can't I Be You
6. +/- (Plus/Minus) - I've Been Lost
7. Voxtrot - The Start Of Something
8. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

I made every effort possible to make this a good cohesive mix that really flows and evolves as you listen rather than just slap as many good songs as I could fit onto one CD. I suppose I can only hope you guys dig it. Cheers!

YES, Joy Division, thank you. My great friend Beau once gave me that Donnie Darkesque track on a cd that I proceeded to leave around in cars and suitcases until it was sufficiently scratched and hashed-the-hell-out-of before I uploaded it all into my computer. I've been listening to it despite the scratching and skipping and to think I could get through all of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in one smooth run satisfies me greatly.

oblique reference to, er, my mix? there was method there, I swear!

glad you kids like!

chaucer, no. that is not a reference to your mix at all. i have just made mixes in the past that were nothing more than as many good songs as i could fit. i realize that yours is much more than that. no worries!

gillz. glad you dig the joy division as much as i do. i actually have the whole donnie darko soundtrack/score (which, incidentally, i pulled this track from...strange). if you'd like, as soon as i get internet installed in my apartment, i will email you the rest of the tracks.

man, i spun this on the way to work #2. and everytime I hear Ziggy, well, let me just say that The Thin White Bowie is cool, ye even the coolest, but Mick Ronson owns that track...sooo underrated my favorite once LDs hero..

Just spun the mix a few times today...have to say, I had an enjoyable time. A few new especially great treats for me were: Portugal. The Man, A Ribbon, and Voxtrot.

I loved the showing of the Streets...I was hoping someone would.

Nice closing song choice as well.

A well rounded mix to be sure.

The Voxtrot track is so very....Smiths. Perhaps that is why I like it so damn much. I don't know if anyone's heard Sparrow House, which is the solo project of a member of Voxtrot, but I had heard Sparrow House and never checked Voxtrot till this mix, expecting them to sound the same, which they don't. A pleasant, morrisey-stricken surprise.

Also, one of the members of this guild (the Cap'n)used to manage a very kick-ass club, and everytime I hear Ian Curtis's voice I am taken back to said club to revel in wonder at the amazingtude of Joy Division and the subsequent amazingtude of New Order. And Curtis's epitaph? Love Will Tear Us Apart..

thank you for the mix

Portugal. The Man is new for me and a great surprise. I really enjoyed that song.

Oh, Joy Division. Makes me want to have 80's hair and push through crowds of punks. Lovely. I'm interested in the movie coming out about Joy Division.

I listened to something of Voxtrot before and i wasn't into it but I might need to give them another listen. That song is stuck in my headspace.

As Chaucer and I were having a wonderfully mediocre breakfast at the IHOP (yes, I ordered the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'n' Fruity) we discussed this mix just a bit. While we were very glad for the inclusion of Joy Division we were sad that it had to be discovered through Donnie Darko's soundtrack. Translation: I'm old. I discovered this fantastic band when I was about ...mmm... 14? That's around 1984-85. I don't care where/when you discovered JD, but enjoy them and be sad that they ended before their time.

As for other tracks: Nicely done with the Cure, +/-, Wilco and the Ziggy.

hey hey hey! though the joy division track was from my donnie darko soundtrack, let's not assume that it was discovered there. it just happens that i don't own a copy of substance unfortunately.

thanks for all the kind comments on the mix, guys. portugal. the man has a new disc out in july, so go pick it up!
