Insanity-ness.

I guess this is as good a place as any to spit this out...this might be old hat to some, but I just read that Johnny Marr, yes, Johnny Marr now plays guitar for Modest Mouse. Should this compel me to renew interest (not in Marr, but in Mouse)?

Discuss.

The new MM album is certainly better than their last, but still not great. But, with that said, the novilty of Marr hasn't worn off on me yet.

Yessir, Marr is still a hero of mine, although I didn't think that JM & the Healers were anything too great..

I'm a diehard Modest Mouse fan and I have to admit this latest album lacks something. Not a great album but some killer songs nonetheless.

"Fire It Up" and "Spitting Venom" give me the face people have come to call happiness.

I'm going to see Mouse and Man Man play in New York the end of this month.

Damn. I love Man Man. I didn't want anyone to know of Man Man. I'm terrified my songs are going to be old hat to everybody. I'm going to end up putting crappy songs on mixes just because they are the most obscure names I have.

I WILL find dark horses before May, I swear it. I swear it on a holy stack of herpes info pamphlets. I will find great songs that none of you insane, gifted, musically-obsessed fellas have ever IMAGINED exist. Just see if I don't. Just wait.

Em, I have the same fears. I've been sniffing out obscure blogs for undiscovered greatness. I have a goal of one unknown band. That's all. Nothing monumental. Just one.

i think a good goal is unknown or for some reason unpopular gems by known musicians.

it doesn't have to be all church-of-what's-happenin'-now, unless y'all want it to be.

even a free mix of songs we know is better than no mix a'tall. Wyrd?

I second that opinion, Chaucer. I've been tweaking my mix and probably half of the songs are commonly known.

I've got one jazzy song that's got to be 40 years old and even my mom knows it but I put it on because it's light, happy, and I thought it would be a good choice - not because it's avant garde, cutting edge or obscure - but because I think it's freakin' cool.

I am very sad that I just busted out the previous run on-and-on sentence.

I just want to make a mix that I think is cool. If being obscure is cool for you, then go for it. I'm getting too old to be the obscure dude, the hip cat. I no longer have the street cred for stuff like that. I just like songs that give me the shivers, make me nod my head, or remind me of better times.

Haha, perfect. Good, this is relieving. I'm just going to follow my heart then, and see how you all react to it. I'm excited to get stuff soon!
